Constructed Reality

I could not see myself photographing a recreation of either of the photographers that I researched, so instead I recreated a fashion advertisement/fashion photograph. Initially I was going to make it appear commercial, but later thought it would be more fun to tint the image so that it looked more vintage and also abstracted the real space. the image was taken in front of a white wall, but I think that by tinting the photograph the wall becomes less harsh and creates more of a studio space.

  1. I love the lighting - I think your choice to make it not as harsh works in this setting, especially with the colors of her outfit. The framing is really nice and the angle works well. I like the idea of finding the weirdest clothes to put them all together, they sort of work! What might work well is if you added text to this image and make it into an advertisement!

  2. What's working: I like the lighting and the over-all tone of the image
Construction: I think you also comment on what fashion is and isn't
    Suggestions: none

  3. -The colors are working, they are all pretty warm and cohesive, not to hurt the eyes.
    - I think if you were doing a "fashion photo" she should maybe be posed differently? I feel like this pose looks a bit awkward, unless you are commenting on negative aspects of fashion photography, in which it would work.
    - I like the fun and whimsical feel it has to it

  4. I really like your concept. It's comical, yet it has some sort of seriousness about it. Maybe if you took some of the yellow pigment from the image out it would seem more "realistic" yet odd because of the clothes she is wearing! Overall, I like the idea and the framing of this. It communicates your message well!

  5. I like the idea, and you do a good job of conveying that it is a "fashion" photo, despite the old, mismatched clothes. The framing and lighting works well too. I would have liked to see you compare it to another photo, or post a real fashion photo that you are commenting on.

  6. seems like a collage of wearables
like the idea of various parts of identity being exhibited through different clothing items
maybe the pose could somehow convey a sense of the collaged identity. however, the interesting thing about the pose you chose is that it is the iconic symbol of fashion so she becomes more like a mannequin without an individual identity.

  7. My interpretation of this photo is that it is commenting on fashions journey through time. We came from a time that had to match their shoes with their purse to a time of mismatching a loud fashion statements. I really like the variety of colors that show up in this image. In the same sense I wonder what the image would look like in black and white because there are a lot of different patterns and textures that you could play off of using a high contrast.

  8. Both the pose and the lighting suggest a fashion photograph, but the clothes, in all their mis-match-ness, don't, so that works well. Although, by modeling these "ugly" items in this way, do they become high fashion? Maybe the model's position could be different in order to emphasize that this is supposed to satirical?

  9. Something working in your recreation would be the feeling you were going for of making fun of fashion. I like how you decided to do a "dingy" overtone to the image to let it connect with the clothing that was picked out. The only suggestion I would give you is to maybe heighten the contrast to make it pop a but more.

  10. Giving it a tint I think really helps give the pic a more fashiony feel and I love how Jamie gets into being a model all the funky clothes and her held back smile just make the picture so cute and funny I love it like you know you had too much fun with this one.

  11. I really like your concept behind the photo. I think to make it appear more commercial, you should try photographing from a different angle or by including more of the body. It looks more like a snapshot than an ad, so you could push it further by changing its perspective slightly. You could even play more with the body language and pose by having her do a more extended, stereotypical model's look.

  12. I enjoy your concept. I think the clothes you picked work well with your idea. You could probably push the idea more if you want to really make a comment on fashion photography. Possibly work more with photoshop or frame it so more of her body/the clothes are showing.

  13. The composition and the concept behind your recreation I think works very well. The angle on the model along with the clothes as to how they are arranged makes it feel like a fashion advertisement. Personally I don't know much about fashion in general so the concept of old vintage or tacky looking clothing didn't even cross my mind. I thought all the different colors in the clothing and the plain background gives a visually strong image overall

  14. I like the lighting on the back wall how part of it is dark and part of it is light.
The photo works well for fashion aspect, so the recreation idea works.
Possibly add some more contrast in the curves adjustments.

  15. Even though you said you picked out the ugliset things in your closet, the colors do make this photograph seem fashionable :)

  16. It was a good idea to tint the image like you said. I do think that it has more of a senior picture feel..Maybe because of the cropping. If the focus is on the hat/glasses, think about zooming in closer. If it is on the clothes, capture from further away, maybe.
